I love it when an author is so obviously dedicated to his work and his research and this is certainly the case with “19000 Years of World History”. This could not have been an easy subject matter to research, organize and present to the average layperson.
This book is quite fascinating – taking a look at subjects that have not necessarily been easy to track or understand. For example, there is a very thorough and informative look at the various religions in the world and how they got started. Absolutely fascinating to read and frankly, I was a bit ashamed to say that I did not know about most of what I read.
Another interesting subject matter was about languages. I am always fascinated by languages, and I am proud to say that I speak 3 of them, but when I found out that there were actually more like 449 different languages being spoken – it certainly made me very humble.
Unfortunately, history no longer seems to be as important to people anymore and I am guilty of this. It is only when I read such a detailed and interesting book on the subject that I find myself with a renewed interest in the subject matter.
Thank goodness we have authors who make sure to document, track and outline our history in this manner for us.
The only downside is that, at times, I felt there was too much information – and this diluted the general message a little bit for me.
Overall thous, I loved this book – written for the lay person (i.e. not full of boring technical and cold facts) this book contains a wealth of information that I am thoroughly happy to have discovered.
